Event Horizon privacy policy

Last Updated: October 13, 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Event Horizon ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our application for Mac ("the App"). The short version: we don't collect anything. The App reads your calendar on your Mac to count down to your next meeting, keeps your tasks and notes on your Mac, and makes no network connections.

2. Information Collection and Use

2.1. Personal Information:

The App does not collect or transmit any personal information. We operate no servers and use no analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind, and the App contains no third-party SDKs. There is no account to create.

2.2. Your Calendar:

With your permission, the App reads events from the calendars on your Mac through Apple's Calendar framework (EventKit), from the start of today through the end of tomorrow. It uses each event's title, time, and availability, and whether you declined it, to count down to your next meeting and show your agenda. It looks at an event's URL, location, and notes only to find a video-call link. You choose which calendars it uses.

The App never creates, changes, or deletes calendar events, and it doesn't copy your events into its own storage. It does remember which calendars you chose, and the identifiers of meetings you've ended early or marked as not interrupting your work. Those identifiers are cleared once the meetings are over.

2.3. Tasks and Notes:

The tasks you add, their time estimates and time worked, and the notes you leave on them are stored in the App's database on your Mac. They are never uploaded, synced, or shared.

Copy Tasks and Notes puts them on your clipboard as text, and they go wherever you paste them. If Universal Clipboard is on, macOS can make the clipboard available on your other Apple devices nearby.

2.4. Settings:

Your preferences, such as the warning time, the sound and voice, the appearance, and the shortcut, are stored in the App's preferences on your Mac.

3. Data Storage, Retention, and Deletion

Everything the App stores stays on your Mac, inside the App's own sandboxed container, and is protected by your Mac's built-in security.

Your tasks and notes stay until you delete them. Delete Task removes a task and its note, and Clear Completed removes every finished task and its note. You can turn off the App's calendar access at any time in System Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Calendars. The App then stops reading your events.

macOS keeps a sandboxed app's data after the app is moved to the Trash. To remove everything, also delete the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.stauss.Event-Horizon. Time Machine and other backups may keep app data according to your settings.

4. Third-Party Services

The App uses no third-party services and makes no network connections.

When you join a meeting, the App opens the meeting's link in your web browser or in the meeting service's own app, such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. From there, that service's privacy policy applies. If a meeting has no call link, the App opens Apple's Calendar app instead.

5. Permissions Used

5.1. Calendars:

Required to find your next meeting, as described in section 2.2. The App asks for full access because macOS only lets an app read events with full access; the App uses it to read and never to write.

5.2. Notifications:

The App sends local notifications only: a warning before a meeting starts, showing the meeting's title, and a reminder to pick your task back up when it ends, showing the task's title and your note. They are created on your Mac, and macOS keeps them in Notification Center according to your settings. The App does not use push notifications and has no server to send them.

5.3. Spoken Alerts:

If you choose a voice for the meeting warning, the App speaks the meeting's title and how soon it starts. The speech is generated on your Mac by Apple's speech synthesis, using a voice installed on your Mac.

5.4. Keyboard Shortcut:

The App registers one shortcut with macOS, ⌥⌘E to show its window, and you can turn it off in the App's Settings. macOS tells the App only when it is pressed. The App does not read anything else you type, and it does not ask for Accessibility or Input Monitoring access.

5.5. Everything Else:

The App does not use your location, contacts, reminders, photos, camera, or microphone.

6. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since the App does not collect any personal information from any user, there is no risk of inadvertent collection of children's data. If you are a parent or guardian and have concerns, please contact us.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
