Privacy Policy for Spool
Last Updated: July 29, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Spool ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application ("the App").
2. Information Collection and Use
2.1. Personal Information:
The App does not collect or transmit any personal information from your device.
2.2. Photo Library Access:
With your permission, the App accesses your device's photo library in read-only mode to identify Live Photo sequences. Your photos are analyzed entirely on your device. No photos, videos, or image data are uploaded, transmitted, or shared with any server or third party.
2.3. Exported Videos:
Videos created by stitching Live Photos together are processed entirely on your device. Exported files are saved to your local photo library or shared via the iOS Share Sheet at your discretion. We have no access to these files.
2.4. Purchase Information:
In-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit. We do not collect, process, or store any payment information. An anonymous export counter is stored locally in your device's Keychain to manage the free trial.
2.5. Location Data in Your Photos:
Many Live Photos include the coordinates where they were taken. The App reads those coordinates from your library so it can label a video with a place name and let you search your videos by location. Place names are resolved through Apple's geocoding service and cached locally on your device. The App does not request your device's current location and does not ask for location permission.
2.6. Location Searches:
When you search by location, the text you type is sent to Apple Maps to look up the matching place, and the App then compares the result against the coordinates already stored in your photos. Your photos are never sent as part of a search. We do not receive, log, or store your searches.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your photos, your videos, and every stitched export are stored and processed locally on your device. We operate no servers, and no photo or video data is ever transmitted to us or to any third party. We do not have access to your photos, videos, or any other data on your device.
The App does make network requests in three specific cases, all of them to Apple: looking up a place name or a location search, downloading a Live Photo you have stored in iCloud so it can be stitched, and processing an in-app purchase. These are described in Section 4.
4. Third-Party Services
4.1. Apple's StoreKit:
We use Apple's StoreKit to manage the in-app purchase for watermark removal. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for information on how they handle purchase data.
4.2. Apple Maps and Geocoding:
Location search and place-name lookup use Apple's MapKit and geocoding services. Search text you enter, and coordinates read from your photos, are sent to Apple to return a result. Apple's handling of that data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. If you never search by location, no photo coordinates are sent for search purposes.
4.3. iCloud Photos:
If a Live Photo is not stored fully on your device, the App asks iOS to download it from your own iCloud Photos library so it can be stitched. This is a transfer between Apple and your device using your own iCloud account. We are not involved and receive nothing.
5. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since the App does not collect any personal information from any user, there is no risk of inadvertent collection of children's data. If you are a parent or guardian and have concerns, please contact us.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
